the song of passing

tell them when I die
that I didn’t die
tell them I’m painting landscapes from the sky
tell them I found love in a grain of sand
and followed it there
tell them I’m hiding in the woven basket on the floor
tell them my heart stopped beating
because the chase was over
tell them my body fell away
like soiled clothes before a shower
tell them I’m blue and purple and gold
tell them I’ll never grow old
tell them I now skip from planets
and smile in starlight
tell them the sun is my eye
tell them not to worry or fear
that I’m near
tell them when they die
that they will not die
